“I just kissed my husband.”
When I first started working at the cancer center here in Lexington, KY, I spent most of my time in the chemotherapy clinic giving short sessions and spreading the word about our new program. I was marketer and practitioner rolled into one. My hope was that the patients I served in the chemo clinic might have a positive experience that induced them to consider more treatments in my treatment office where we could do even deeper work. One of my first patients who did just that was Joan.
Joan was a breast cancer patient receiving her usual chemotherapy infusion when she agreed to a chairside session. She didn’t have any particular need in mind, but was curious about what this therapy I was offering was. It would also help pass the time, as the hours receiving chemo could be long and dull.
Joan relaxed quickly and reclined her chair so she could really enjoy the treatment. Towards the end I noticed that she was mumbling and making some unusual facial expressions as she slept. When she awoke she looked at me in surprise.
“I was just kissing my husband. He was really here. I could feel his lips on mine.” She then told me that he had died two years previous and that never before had she felt his presence. She felt a real sense of closeness with him at this moment and knew that there was much more beyond what we perceive as reality. “We were really close, and I now know that we still are.”
Sometimes the positive experiences people have with Jin Shin Jyutsu are pain relief or deep relaxation. Other times it is something that truly cannot be explained but is just as worthwhile.
