From People to Pets
It seems like most people learn about Jin Shin Jyutsu by chance. They met someone on a plane. Their friend had an experience. They stumbled across it somehow. When I learned about Jin Shin Jyutsu there was very little information on the internet. There was also nothing about using Jin Shin Jyutsu for animals until Adele Leas wrote her textbook and began teaching the work.
I started to play with Jin Shin Jyutsu for my pets long before taking my first Jin Shin Jyutsu for animals class with Adele. It just felt natural. If I could help myself and my clients through light touch, wouldn’t it work on a furry being? It started for me with a kitten we had rescued in the middle of a busy street here in downtown Lexington. This tiny grey kitten was dragging it’s front paw as it made its way across the street through very busy traffic. Cars were veering to keep from hitting him. My young daughter yelled “We have to save him!” and so we did. I pulled over, and with my daughter safely in the car, I darted onto the road during a momentary break and scooped the little guy up.
Back in the car, I plopped him on my daughter’s lap and made a call. Within an hour our new kitten was being checked out top to bottom by our vet Nancy McGregor, who’s a star. The kitten appeared to have no injuries from the trek across the road but definitely had been hurt previously. His tail was broken in many places and the paw he dragged had possible previous breakage and nerve damage. Nancy put the paw in a splint and said to give it a little time.
We gave our new kitten, now named Bubba, lots of love and attention. We held him constantly showering him with affection. It was during this time that I thought “I wonder if I can help him a little with Jin Shin Jyutsu.” I got out my books and notes and did some simple holds for him that made him stretch, yawn and relax. He adjusted quickly to his new life with us and never seemed to be traumatized by whatever had occurred in his life before we scooped him up on the road.
Bubba did have to have his leg amputated because the nerve damage was severe. I continued to use Jin Shin Jyutsu during the healing process and throughout his 15+ years with us. Bubba never had an illness. He thrived in his 3 legged life until his last couple of months when he began to have breathing issues we found later to be due to a tumor. Nancy, commented that she was surprised that Bubba had been doing so well for a cat with cancer. I think it was because Bubba received lots and lots of love and Jin Shin Jyutsu right up until his peaceful passing.
